It contains the Bookplate for Lt Colonel Cecil Angelo. This belongs to John Cecil Cortlandt Angelo, 8 generation descendant of Domenico Angelo and matches similar bookplates used by Angelo (Henry Charles Angelo) and confirmed by the Royal College of Arms
The work is dedicated by Angelo to the Duke of Gloucester [William Henry] and Prince Henry-Frederic, from whom he had received 'The Honor ... of teaching ... the Art of Fencing'
John Cecil Cortlandt Angelo (1869-1957)
John Cecil Cortlandt Angelo was born in London on August 30, 1869, the son of Major John Angelo of the 15th Bengal Lancers, and Emily Louisa Blyth Angelo. He attended the Tonbridge School in Kent, the Hermitage School in Bath, and the Royal Military College at Sandhurst before joining the North Staffordshire Regiment as a 2nd Lieutenant. Angelo served in India beginning in 1898, becoming captain and and eventually rising in rank to Lietuenant-Colonel before retiring in 1916; he also served on the Punjab Commission.
