Corporal Brown describes the 1793-95 Low Countries campaign with near-daily journal entries. Operations included raids, and marching and counter-marching alongside Austrian, Prussian, Hanoverian, and other Allied contingents. This campaign kicking off the start of the Napoleonic Wars includes the fight at Lincelles (1793), Tourcoing (1793), and Tournai (1794) before moving to besiege Dunkirk.
An observant, engaging and well written account. Contemporary Eighteenth Century accounts by Other Ranks are rare,and this book conveys the soldiers’ experiences in an interesting and thoughtful way
